3rd Annual Turkey Drive
In partnership with Forma Gym, The Rollins Family Foundation, and Feed My Sheep, The Black Neighborhood hosts an annual free Thanksgiving Turkey Drive at People’s Baptist Church in East Oakland, CA. With the goal of providing 500 turkeys and food bags to 500 families, the purpose of the Turkey Drive is to give Thanksgiving to families who would not have it otherwise. The food bags consist of: turkeys, produce, rice, boxes of macaroni and cheese, and canned goods. The event takes place on two days. On the first day, with the help of our volunteers, we gather inside the church and pack the 500 bags one by one; this process usually takes 2-3 hours. On the second day, families arrive to the church at their designated time slot (which they receive weeks before) and pick-up their food bags from our volunteers; this event usually lasts for 5-6 hours. The 500 turkeys are donated to Feed My Sheep by Forma Gym and The Rollins Family Foundation, while the items needed to fill the 500 food bags are donated by individuals within the TBN network through online, mobile, and personal donations.
